NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller 

Line Of Duty Death Funeral 3/30/24

At 5:50 p.m on Monday March 25th, 2024 Detective Jonathan Diller and his partner approached a vehicle that was stopped in front of a bus stop. Despite being asked numerous times to exit the vehicle, the subject refused. He pulled out a gun and shot Detective Diller in the stomach, striking him under his vest. Detective Diller was able to get the gun away from the subject, and his partner wounded the suspect.


Detective Diller was transported to Jamaica Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.


The subject, who had an extensive criminal record, was taken to Jamaica Hospital and is in stable condition.


Detective Diller had served with the New York City Police Department for three years and was assigned to Patrol Borough Queens South Community Response Team. He is survived by his wife and one-year-old son.


He was posthumously promoted to Detective First Grade and given a new shield number, 110, which is his son's birthday. 


On Saturday March 30th, Detective Diller, surrounded by thousands of Uniformed Emergency Service Providers, family, friends, and the general public was laid to rest in in Farmingdale, New York. Fire Departments from across Long Island, NY provided over 20 "flag arches" along the route from the Church to the Cemetary which also included shutting down all lanes of the Southern State Parkway. 

Detective Diller, was transported to his final resting place led by multiple NYPD units, over 300 Law Enforcement Motorcycles, and aviation units provided by the NYPD and Long Island Police Departments. Detective Diller was one of the good guys, our continued thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as they continue to heal from the loss of Detective Diller.
